Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates and while it is not as glitzy as neighboring Dubai it has plenty of things going for it as well. So we rented a taxi and drove to Abu Dhabi which is about three hours away. There are many places to see and things to buy in this country. One thing that visitors to this place will need is a scarf in case they wish to visit a mosque because they will be required to cover their head. We did visit a mosque but usually we would dress in the black covered clothing that the local women would wear.
It is very easy to buy beautiful scarves in Abu Dhabi because many of the women here wear them. They are available in all sorts of materials and prints to suit the most discerning person’s requirements. They are also available in all sorts of designs, both traditional and modern, many made of the finest silks. My mother and I ended up buying many scarves.
We found that shopping in Abu Dhabi is a great deal of fun because there are lots of beautiful places one can buy stuff. The shopping malls here compare favorably with the best in the world and one can buy the most lovely scarves, clothing and shoes and other accessories here. If you want to find something more traditional and perhaps a little cheaper, you should visit the traditional markets here which are better known as ‘souks’. You will get excellent bargains here but should be prepared to do some work in order to find what you are looking for. You should also be aware that most souks shut in the afternoons between the hours of 1 and 4. However, we discovered they operate late into the night, closing only at 10:00 in the evenings.
You will not be disappointed if you go shopping for beautiful scarves in the malls and souks of Abu Dhabi. You will also be very pleased with the prices of things here since the import duties in this country are very low and the quality is high. In fact, you will find a lot more things here and will return from your vacation fully loaded with beautiful clothes, souvenirs, in fact, everything.
